Opal Rebecca (Hayes) Porter 1953-2010

Opal Rebecca Porter, of Salem, was born on March 23, 1953, at Rolla, a daughter of Roy James and Bertha Melvina (Workman) Hayes, and departed this life at 6:17 a.m., Friday, January 15, 2010, near Salem as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Mrs. Porter had attained the age of 56 years, 9 months and 13 days.
 
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Velvet Weyand; 8 brothers, James, Lester, Lloyd, Roy Lewis, Albert, Snowden, William and Wilbur Hayes; and two sisters, Ethel and Thelma Hayes.
 
Mrs. Porter was a member of the Pentecostal Church. She had worked in housekeeping and for Forum Cleaners.
 
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Porter include: two sons, Garlan Weyand and Dweyane Weyand, both of Rolla; four daughters, Velda Honeywell and Delda Burks, both of Oklahoma; Nellie Porter and Rebecca Porter, both of St. Louis; special friend, Steve Barnett, Salem; one brother, Marvin Hayes and wife, Cathy, Rolla; one adopted brother, Obie Shelton, Rolla; four sisters, Lilly Salts and Shirley Skaggs, both of Rolla; Emily Wagoner and husband, Frank, Cuba and Mildred Warren, Rolla; one sister-in-law, Bev Hayes, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; numerous nephew, nieces and other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Porter at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Rev. Bill Perkins, Assembly of God Church, Belle officiating. “Sissy’s Song” and “Holes In The Floor Of Heaven” were played for the service.
 
Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery, near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Porter were Steven Warren, Stanley Warren, Rusty Freeman, Bill Schnedler, Brian Wagoner and Ray Sudheimer. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Jacobs, Bobby Backues, Jim Bob Campbell and Kevin Skaggs.
 
Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon.
