Essie (Cruts) Jones 1912-2006

Essie (Cruts) Jones of St. James, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the St. James Nursing Home in St. James, Missouri. Essie was 94 years 5 months and 18 days of age.

Essie was born on June 17, 1912 in St. Louis, Missouri to her parents Rhaney and Lola Mae (Atkins) Cruts . Essie was united in marriage to Edgar Raymond Jones on December 31, 1932 in St. James, Missouri. They lived on East Eldon for 60 years. Essie and Edgar were married for 68 years on December 31, 2000. To this union two children were born.

Essie went to school at Vichy, Missouri first grade, and remaining school years at St. James Schools. Essie worked at Johnson-Stephen Shinkle Shoe Factory in Rolla for a time. Essie was a housewife and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook which her children, family, and friends took great pleasure in. Essie became a Christian as a young girl. Essie was an active member of the First Church of God at St. James for over 50 years. Essie served as assistant Sunday School teacher, Missionary Society member and membership director, and Willing Workers member. Essie touched our lives for good. She loved her father in heaven, and she will be remembered by her children and close friends as a nurturing, thoughtful and spirited woman.

Essie is survived by one daughter; Brenda Sue Lyle and husband Dwight of Rolla, Missouri; Grandson: Scott Stephen Lyle and wife Heidi of Rolla, Missouri; one son: Terry Raymond Jones and wife Louann Jones; granddaughter: Rachel Jones; Grandson Walker Raymond Jones of Columbia, Missouri; one sister: Berniece Daub of St. James, Missouri; and two special friends: Mary Ann Petty and Elaine Skaggs of St. James, Missouri, along with a host of friends and extended family. Essie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding Essie in death are her parents: Rhaney and Lola (Atkins) Cruts; her husband: Edgar R. Jones on May 12, 2001; an infant brother: Elmer Jacob Cruts; and brother: Raymond Virgil Cruts.

Services
Visitation for Essie was held on Friday, December 8, 2006 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri with Reverend Terry Robinson and Reverend Don Carson officiating; the organist and vocalist was Linda Spurgeon. Pallbearers were Don Hughes, Don Romine, James Welch, Bob Morrison, Burial was in the family plot in the St. James Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the First Church of God in St. James, Missouri. Cards are available at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
