Guy LaVern (Vern) McIntosh 1905-2005

Guy LaVern (Vern) McIntosh passed away December 30, 2005 at the Jefferson City Nursing Home. He was 100 years and 15 days of age.

Vern McIntosh was born December 15, 1905 near Jakes Prairie, Missouri north of St. James the ninth child of George Washington Bowen and Barbara Catherine (Breuer) McIntosh.

He was united in marriage to Marie Rose Forfer who passed away in 1976.

Vern McIntosh is survived by one daughter Judith Hirst and husband Richard of Jefferson City, also 8 grandchildren: grandsons: Richard and Steven Hirst, David, Steven, James, and John McIntosh and granddaughters: Jennifer (Hirst) McQuinn and Dana (McIntosh) Wham. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife and one son Dan McIntosh who passed away in 1991. Brothers and Sisters: Effie Wright, Henry, Ransom, Martin, Benjamin, Eda McIntosh, Iva Akers and George McIntosh.

Vern was educated at the Oak Grove Elementary School and attended the St. James High School in 1922 and 1923. In 1923 he moved to St Louis where he resided for the next 67 years. Vern McIntosh worked in the St. Louis office of the Louisiana Railroad & Navigation Co., later consolidated with the Kansas City Southern Lines. After 47 1/2 years of service Vern retired on Jan 31, 1973 at which time he was a freight Rate Manager of the KCS Lines in charge of the St Louis Office.

Services
Funeral Service were conducted 11 A.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2005 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James with Jess Rinehart officiating. Burial was in the family plot at the Oak Grove Cemetery where his wife, son and daughter-in-law, parents, several brothers, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins are also buried. Pallbearers were family and friends.
